IDEA Launch PartyPosted: April 20, 2010
When I was at the Medgar Evers Symposium in February, I got to meet Jonah Canah, who has some innovative programs for the outcasts in the public school system. As part of his introduction, he showed a short video which demonstrated some of the reasons and benefits of the democratic process in education. I really liked the video and asked for a copy or a link. I was told that it was not available yet, and would be after several planned launch parties took place around the country. Well, the time has come. Here is the announcement:
Please join me on May 11th as Brooklyn Free School celebrates the launch of the Institute for Democratic Education in America (IDEA), an exciting new addition to the democratic education movement. BFS was filmed last fall for IDEA’s first short flim, and we’ll screen the clip at the party! Hope to see you there!
IDEA Launch Party
Location: Brooklyn Free School
Date: May 11, 2010
Time: 6-7 PM

This is a free event, though in order to support IDEA there will be a brief request for voluntary donations during the event.
IDEA, the Institute for Democratic Education in America, is publicly launching this May and raising awareness and support through Launch Parties organized by supporters around the country. Come join us and help us bring about a vision of a society in which every young person has the opportunity to live and learn in an environment of meaningful participation, freedom and responsibility, and equity and justice.
Learn more about IDEA at www.democraticeducation.org and become a fan of IDEA on Facebook: www.facebook.com/democraticeducation.
Hopefully after the event, I can post the piece here on the blog.
